Atlatl Competition

Every year, the weekend after Labor Day, Wahkpa Chugn hosts an atlatl competition. Members of the World Atlatl Associat bring their atlatl's and teach all participants how to throw it. This is a two day event with participants allowed to go through the course as many times as they wish. They can "throw" both Saturday and Sunday if they want. Prizes totalling $500 are awarded for various events. People are invited to come out and have a good time and perhaps learn something new. No pre-registration or entry fees are required, everything is free.

Stone Boiling

In the spring and fall months the buffalo jump offers special tours to school children. During all tours visitors are taught how to throw an atlatl (throwing spear). As a special event for school tours the students are given the opportunity to participate in a special stone boiling demonstration. The demonstration gives the children a "hands on" experience of one way the native Americans would have cooked buffalo meat. Students are allowed to cook their own buffalo meat and then can taste this piece of "history" if they wish.
